The research aim of the research field “Eco-Reliability” is to integrate reliability aspects into product eco design criteria and to develop a practicable eco-reliability check for electronic products.

Up to 80 percent of the environmental impact of a product (e.g. smartphone) is already determined by the raw material extraction and the production. Moreover, electronic products include many resources which cannot be recycled and disappear dissipatedly in recycling processes (e.g. road construction). Extending the product usage time has therefore a significant impact on the resource productivity of products.

The accurate prediction of the environmental impact and lifespan of electronic systems is the main target of the research field “Eco-Reliability”.
