Janis studied Industrial Engineering at the University of Kaiserslautern. He wrote his PhD in an interdisciplinary research program in cooperation with the University Leuphana and the German Federal Environment Agency while working at the Federal Agency and Fraunhofer IZM. During his studies he worked for the Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Environment for four years and at the Festo AG for two years. At the Fraunhofer IZM Janis Winzer works in the department Environmental & Reliability Engineering. His current research activities include design for recycling, EcoDesign, EcoReliability.
Since 2005 he is active in the research field of product-related environmental protection and environmentally conscious design and manufacturing.
